HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 c462W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce a system of time-stamping police officers' notebooks where it is intended that the contents of these notebooks are to be used as evidence in court proceedings.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We are not persuaded of the necessity for such action. If an occurrence is not written up at the time, or very shortly after it takes place, the officer concerned will be expected to record the date and time at which it is subsequently noted. In the Metropolitan police this is a requirement in standing orders.
