HL Deb 18 May 1988 vol 497 c420WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What co-operation there is between North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member states to ensure uniform and high safety measures on ferries and other vessels likely to be taken up from trade in the event of war.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

All merchant ships taken up from trade by NATO member states in the event of war would need to hold appropriate certificates to show that they comply with all the relevant international safety requirements.
