HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 c479W
39. Mr. Nicholas Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will bring forward proposals for a new planning circular relating to house building.

Mr. Waldegrave

Advice on planning issues relating to the supply of land for housing was recently consolidated and restated in planning policy guidance note 3. We intend to consult shortly on a new draft circular stressing the importance of up-to-date local plans as a basis for sound planning decisions.

Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses in England were built before 1919.

Mrs. Roe

It is estimated that in December 1986 5.2 million of the dwellings in England had been built before 1919.
