To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what was the cost of providing stationery for the administration of the social fund since April;

(2) what has been the cost to his Department of providing new forms for (a) income support and (b) the social fund since the implementing of the Social Security Act 1986.

Mr. Portillo

[holding answer 16 May 1988]: The combined costs of printing forms and stationery for supplementary benefits work, income support and the social fund were £4.447 million in 1986–87, £9.169 million in 1987–88 and are estimated to be £6.3 million in 1988–89.

Information on the separate costs of forms and stationery for income support and the social fund could be made available only at disproportionate cost.
