HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 cc507-8W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has any plans to extend the communication service for the deaf to cover disablement resettlement officer interviews.

Mr. Lee

There are no plans at present to extend the communication service for the deaf to cover disablement resettlement officer interviews but clients with hearing difficulties can usually be helped by other methods.

Mr. Lee

There is currently no general provision for communicators to be made available in job clubs, though job clubs have in practice been able to arrange for help to be given with communication in particular cases. The employment service is currently reviewing the needs for special help of job club clients with disabilities.

There are no current plans to extend the communication service for the deaf to restart interviews, but clients with hearing difficulties can usually be helped by other methods.

Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide statistics concerning the destination of the long-term unemployed under the restart programme for the period June 1986 to the most recent complete month for which figures are available, for each standard region and for the number of people(a) interviewed, (b) placed on the community programme, (c) placed in job clubs, (d) placed on enterprise allowance, (e) placed on training schemes, (f) placed on restart courses, (g) on voluntary projects programmes and (h) in jobs.

Mr. Lee

[holding answer 17 May 1988]The number of people interviewed under the restart programme in each employment service region and the numbers referred to the various menu items, are shown in the table. We do not know how many of those interviewed ultimately end up in a job or other opportunity as a result of the restart interview.
