HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 c496W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the average time taken to complete the appeal process against refusal of benefit for different benefits from his Department's local offices at Chorlton, Rusholme and Sale.

Mr. Portillo

The national administrative statistics for social security appeal tribunals, which are the source for average durations between the lodging of appeals and hearing, are not disaggregated for areas smaller than a social security region.

In north-western region, which includes Chorlton, Rusholme and Sale, for the quarter ending 30 June 1987 (the latest available figures) the average time taken between lodgement and hearing of an appeal for all social security benefits was 20.3 weeks.
