HC Deb 17 May 1988 vol 133 c380W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the progress, time scale, and costs, for the decommissioning of the 100 MW advanced gas-cooled reactor at Windscale.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Decommissioning began in 1982 and has progressed according to a programme aimed at achieving a green field site by 1996. About £20 million has been spent or committed to date and a further £30 million (at current costs) is estimated to be required for completion (excluding ultimate disposal of intermediate level waste). The Department is discussing with the UKAEA the implications for the programme of CEGB's decision to withdraw its funding.
