HC Deb 17 May 1988 vol 133 cc422-3W
Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the figures for the world price of wheat which were used in compiling his Department's economic progress report, February 1988, with particular reference to chart 1—price adjustments gap: cereals; and what is the basis for the statement that in the European Community farmers are paid three times world prices for wheat, barley etc.

Mr. Lilley

As stated in the economic progress report article, the charts containing estimates of the price adjustment gap for various agricultural products were taken from "The Political Economy of International Agricultural Policy Reform" published by the Department of Primary Industry, Australia (Canberra 1986) which gives details of estimated representative world food prices.
