HC Deb 17 May 1988 vol 133 cc436-7W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Lord President of the Council why the vending machine in the Upper Waiting Hall is closed during recesses; and when was the last occasion on which the machine was rigorously cleaned.

Mr. Wakeham

The vending machine in the Upper Waiting Hall is provided for the use of Members and others attending Committees meeting on days when the House is sitting; as such it is not considered necessary for it to operate during recesses. The machine's supply mechanism is automatically cleansed with boiling water twice a day. If the hon. Lady has a particular complaint in mind, may I suggest that, in the first instance, she contacts the general manager of the Refreshment Department, who has direct responsibility for this machine.
