HL Deb 17 May 1988 vol 497 c316WA
The Marquess of Ailesbury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What will be the dates of the new campaign in London against vehicle license duty evasion; what area of London will be covered by it; by whom, in addition to the Metropolitan Police, offenders are expected to be reported; and approximately when a detailed statistical breakdown will become available.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

The VED enforcement campaign was launched in London on 3rd May and will run for most of the month. A fortnight of intensive publicity to encourage voluntary relicensing will be followed by nine days of road checks to catch evaders who have failed to heed the warnings. The whole of the Metropolitan and City Police force areas is being covered. Department of Transport officials, traffic wardens as well as Metropolitan and City of London police officers will be reporting evaders.

The initial results will be available by the end of July. Detailed results of prosecutions will not be available for several months.
