HL Deb 17 May 1988 vol 497 c314WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations have been made by the Salmon and Trout Association, the Atlantic Salmon Trust and other allied bodies interested in salmon conservation to obtain assurances from the departments concerned that a further extension of weekly close time by salmon netters to 60 hours should now be agreed, especially in Scottish waters and what consideration has been given to these appeals.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Sanderson of Bowden)

Representations were made by these and other bodies in the course of the consultation conducted by my department on whether there should be an increase in the weekly close time for salmon netting in Scotland. The Government decided that the weekly close time should be increased to 60 hours with effect from 6th May as provided for in the Salmon (Weekly Close Time) (Scotland) Regulations 1988 (SI 1988 No. 390).
