§ 17. Mr. McAllionTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what changes there have been in the balance of research supported by his Department and by other Departments in recent years.
Mr. JacksonExpenditure on research by the Department, mainly through the research councils and the University Grants Committee, in the current financial year is estimated at about 28.5 per cent. of total expenditure on research by all Government Departments. In 1979–80, it was about 27 per cent. There has therefore been a small increase.
