To ask the Attorney-General how many successful prosecutions there have been for incitement to racial hatred in(a) the past 20 years and (b) the past five years; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

Since 1979 there have been 43 successful prosecutions for incitement to racial hatred. Of these, 16 successful prosecutions have occurred in the past five years. The figures in respect of prosecutions prior to 1979 are not kept separately and could be discovered only at disproportionate cost.
