HC Deb 17 May 1988 vol 133 c436W
Ms. Walley

To ask the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission, how many vacant cleaning posts there were on 13 May as a result of illness and people leaving voluntarily in the Palace of Westminster; what is the establishment for such posts; how many posts are actually filled; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Beith

On 13 May the complement of posts for cleaning staff employed by the House of Commons Commission was 88. On that day there were 74 staff in post of whom none was sick. The difference represents the number of unfilled vacancies due to the steady turnover of staff and is in part compensated for by paid overtime.
