HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c359W
42. Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on progress on the current repairs on the Severn bridge and the likely completion date; and what is the latest estimated final cost.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Work is currently in progress on the supply of new hangers for the suspension bridge, for the major strengthening works on the crossing and for protection of river piers. Resurfacing work is expected to start next year. The programme for completion of all works by the end of 1990 remains on target. The current estimate for the whole scheme is £56 million.
