HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c306W
73. Mr. Burns

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government were represented at the EC/ACP Council of Ministers in Mauritius; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chris Patten

I represented Her Majesty's Government at the annual ACP/EC Council of Ministers meeting which this year was held in Mauritius on 10–11 May. The meeting reviewed the whole range of cooperation between the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states and the European Community within the framework of the Lomé convention. There was also an opportunity for informal discussions with ACP and EC colleagues on the prospects for the negotiations for a successor to the present Lomé convention, which will start in the autumn.
