HC Deb 13 May 1988 vol 133 cc285-6W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied that under the Quarries (General) Regulations 1958, competent persons are required to detect the difference between steel and cast iron components used in Scotch derrick cranes, in view of guidance note PM43 issued in May 1984 by the Health and Safety Executive; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

The competent person carrying out a thorough examination of a Scotch derrick is expected either to identify any critical parts made of cast iron or to advise the owner that the material of such parts should be established.
