Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the numbers of British pensioners living overseas who do not receive pension upratings; and if he will list those three countries with the largest numbers of such deprived pensioners.

Mr. Scott

In December 1987 there were 278,928 British pensioners living overseas who were not entitled to receive pension upratings. The three countries with the largest numbers of such pensioners were Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the 20 countries in the world with the largest number of British people in receipt of pensions together with the numbers at present resident in each country.
