§ Mr. Luce[pursuant to his reply, 12 May 1988, c. 218–19]: I regret that the answer that I provided contained errors regarding the figures of the "special price" of £868,444 and the amount of £230,000 paid to the owner of the portrait of Captain William Wade by Thomas Gainsborough. The correct figures are £855,000 and £216,566 respectively. The amount of £216,556 was raised jointly by the Bath city council (from its Franklin Mint Fund), the National Art Collections Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
