HC Deb 12 May 1988 vol 133 c200W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what action is being taken by his Department to protect sites of antiquity and archaeological interest on Salisbury plain under Ministry of Defence control.

Mr. Moynihan

Land in the Salisbury plain training area is managed by the Property Services Agency (defence land agent) on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. In relation to archaeological remains, the agency acts in accordance with a scheme of management agreed between this Department and the MoD following the report of the Salisbury plain training area archaeological working party (1984–85), with advice from the Salisbury plain training area archaeological consultative committee, comprising representatives of the Army, the Ministry of Defence and the Property Services Agency. The committee is next meeting on 18 May.
