Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) for what reasons Paul Hill, currently held in Her Majesty's prison Long Lartin was put into solitary confinement; and if he will make a statement;

(2) for how long, during his sentence, Paul Hill, currently held in Her Majesty's prison, Long Lartin, has been held in solitary confinement.

Mr. Hill has not been in solitary confinement at any time. He has been removed from normal association in the interests of good order and discipline under the terms of prison rule 43 for a total of 585 days, and for offences against discipline has been awarded a total of 181 days cellular confinement. Information about other occasions when he has been segregated, for example under prison rule 48 when awaiting adjudication, is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many times Paul Hill, currently in Her Majesty's prison Long Lartin, has been moved since first being taken into custody.

Mr. Hill moved four times before his trial in 1975 and 37 times since returning to prison under sentence, usually in the interests of good order and discipline.
