HC Deb 12 May 1988 vol 133 cc226-7W
Mr. Moss

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many neighbourhood watch schemes there are in Cambridgeshire for(a) the district council areas and (b) the towns of Whittlesey, March, Wisbech and Chatteris; and what were the comparable figures in 1987 and 1986.

Mr. John Patten

I understand that there were 168 neighbourhood watch schemes in Cambridgeshire at the end of April 1988, 66 at the end of April 1987 and seven at the end of April 1986. The total for the current year can be broken down by police sub-division (closely related to the district council areas) and section (equivalent to a town) as follows:

Number of schemes
(a) Police sub-division
Peterborough 56
Fenland 28
Huntingdon 31
Cambridge (covers Cambridge City, East and South Cambridgeshire District Council areas) 53

Number of schemes
(b) Police section
Whittlesey 1
March 18
Wisbech 7
Chatteris 2

Comparable figures for 1986 and 1987 are not available in this form.
