Mr. Stern

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has settled the distribution to individual councils of the £20 million housing investment programme resources for 1988–89 set aside for local authorities facing particular difficulties with their obligations under the housing defects legislation; and if he will make a statement.

We have decided to allocate the £20 million of available resources to 75 local authorities, which are today being notified individually by my Department's regional controllors. The authorities receiving such allocations are as follows:

These additional HIP allocations for 1988–89 will help maintain the good progress now being achieved, in assisting owners who are eligible under the housing defects legislation.
