HC Deb 12 May 1988 vol 133 c232W
Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what are his Department's target reductions in energy usage for 1988–89; what is his Department's target reduction in electricity usage for lighting in 1988–89; and what investment his Department is planning to make in new energy efficient lighting equipment in 1988–89 to achieve those target reductions.

Mr. Freeman

The Ministry of Defence's target reduction in non-operational energy usage for 1988–89 is almost £10 million in cash terms. Electricity used for lighting is not separately identifiable from electricity consumption as a whole, and it is therefore not possible to say how much of this is attributable to electric lighting. I regret that it would not be possible to identify investment in new energy-efficient lighting planned for 1988–89 without disproportionate cost.
