HC Deb 12 May 1988 vol 133 c194W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Prime Minister if she will instruct those Ministers who authorise dumping of industrial, nuclear, sewage or any other waste into the Bristol channel, and all other Ministers with supervisory or investigatory powers, to co-ordinate an investigation into the number of permits issued and the efficiency of control on volume or toxicity of material dumped, together with an estimate of any illegal pollution by dumping without licence, including ships washing out their tanks in mid-channel.

The Prime Minister

Departments with responsibilities in this field already co-ordinate their activities and monitor jointly the water quality in the Bristol channel. Any information concerning the unlicensed disposal of waste is dealt with by the appropriate Department; for ships washing out their tanks this is the Department of Transport.
