HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 c157W
102. Mr. Hardy

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps he is taking to ensure that investment and the creation of employment will be secured in areas of high unemployment which have recently been classified as requiring the maximum level of regional support.

Mr. Atkins

The DTI, through its recently launched enterprise initiative, offers a range of incentives to encourage business development throughout the country. Regional selective assistance is available for investment projects undertaken by firms in assisted areas; regional enterprise grants are available for small firms in development areas with fewer than 25 employees to support investment and innovation projects; and in all asssisted and urban programme areas the DTI will pay two thirds of the cost of consultancy projects in marketing, design, quality, manufacturing systems, business planning, and financial and information systems.
