HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 c115W
Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are his Department's target reductions in energy usage for 1988–89; what is his Department's target reduction in electricity usage for lighting in 1988–89; and what investment his Department is planning to make in new energy-efficient lighting equipment in 1988–89 to achieve those target reductions.

Mr. Hurd

My Department has set a target reduction of 0.45 per cent. in energy usage for 1988–89. Investment in energy efficiency measures, including wherever possible the introduction of more energy-efficient lighting equipment, is planned to amount to £690,000, of which investment in energy-efficient lighting equipment accounts or £10,000 supplemented by general maintenance expenditure. Because of the wide range of operational requirements and types of building occupied by the Department it is not practicable to specify targets for particular forms of electricity usage such as lighting.
