HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 cc126-7W
Mr. Stern

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has any plans to expand the assisted places scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

The Government are committed to expanding the assisted places scheme to an eventual total of 35,000 places in England and Wales. We have made a start by allocating some additional places to schools already participating in the APS from September 1988. Expansion will continue in line with the availability of resources.
