HC Deb 10 May 1988 vol 133 c84W
54. Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if domestic help additions will continue to be available to suitable claimants making fresh claims after 11 April.

Mr. Scott

Domestic help additions were a feature of the supplementary benefit scheme which, on 11 April was replaced by income support. The new scheme assists people with costs associated with long-term sickness or disability through a system of flat rate premiums. Additionally, we are setting up the Independent Living Fund which will make payments to severely disabled people on low incomes who need to employ help so that they can live independently.
