HC Deb 09 May 1988 vol 133 c41W
Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the closure of the detoxification unit at Withington hospital, Manchester, and the proposed withdrawal of the inpatient facility at the hospital's alcoholism treatment unit.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 27 April 1988]Responsibility for the provision of patient services at Withington hospital, Manchester is a matter for South Manchester health authority in conjunction with the North Western regional health authority. I have made inquiries and I understand that discussions on the future of the unit are at a very early stage. No decisions will be made on major changes in the service for alcoholism unless and until it can be shown that adequate replacement services can be provided at alternative locations.
