Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many suspects have been questioned at each of the Royal Ulster Constabulary holding centres in Northern Ireland in the last 12 months regarding scheduled offences under the emergency legislation.

Mr. Stanley

A total of 1,851 persons were arrested by the RUC and questioned about alleged terrorist-type offences during the period 1 April 1987 to 31 March 1988.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people have been charged with scheduled offences under the emergency legislation as a result of interviews held at each of the Royal Ulster Constabulary holding centres in Northern Ireland in the last 12 months.

During the period 1 April 1987 to 31 March 1988, a total of 458 persons were charged with terrorist-type offences.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many suspects interrogated about alleged scheduled offences under the emergency legislation at each of the Royal Ulster Constabulary holding centres in the last 12 months have refused to answer any questions at all during interrogation.
