To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he plans to implement the recommendations on merit awards of the review body on doctors' and dentists' remuneration.

Mr. Newton

The report of the Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration suggests a number of changes to the distinction award system, and urges the health departments and the profession to consider whether the system can be improved in these or other ways. We are considering the implications of the recommendations which we will wish to discuss with the profession.
