HC Deb 09 May 1988 vol 133 cc46-7W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current total of beef in private and public intervention; and what were the comparable figures in mid-1986.

Mr. Donald Thompson

A note setting out the volume of public intervention stocks and stocks under aided private storage in the EC and the United Kingdom, which includes figures for beef, is deposited in the Library of the House and is updated on a monthly basis.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the current common support levels for beef, expressed in £ sterling; and what were the comparable figures in mid-1986.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The following are the common price levels in ecus per 100kg at which forequarters are currently bought into intervention and the levels at which they were bought in mid-1986. The sterling equivalents appear in brackets, but do not represent common price levels since the representative (or green) rate used to convert ecus into sterling produces the support level obtained in the United Kingdom only. The actual sterling price paid in the United Kingdom is lower than those shown because a deduction is made proportionate to the value of the variable premium, currently £18.66 per 100kg and £16.69 per 100kg in 1986. The qualities shown are not all bought in each member state.
