HC Deb 05 May 1988 vol 132 cc560-1W
Mr. Heddle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in theOfficial Report a summary on a regional basis of household projections to the latest available date and, in each case, indicate the monitoring and verification procedures his Department adopts with the county planning authorities as to their returns on land availability.

Mr. Waldegrave

A regional breakdown of household projections was included in the recently published DOE booklet "1985 Based Estimates of Numbers of Households in England etc, 1985–2001", which is available in the Library. I am sending my hon. Friend the relevant extract.

In planning policy guidance note 3 we have recently repeated our advice to local planning authorities that, in consultation with housebuilders, they should undertake regular studies of land availability, to ensure that land supplies match the five-year requirement indicated by the provisions of the development plan. The results of such studies are reported to my Department and (as from 1987) are published in annual progress reports.
