To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the financial costs incurred by the United Kingdom Government in the case of Gillow v. United Kingdom before the European Commission and Court of Human Rights; what part of those costs shall be borne by the island of Guernsey; and what measures have been taken by Her Majesty's Government as high contraction party to the convention for the island of Guernsey, to secure the rights and freedoms protected by the convention in that island in relation to the future application of the Housing Control of Occupation (Guernsey) Laws.

The sum of £12,869, agreed as compensation and costs to the plaintiff, has been paid by the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The Bailiwick will also he asked to reimburse the United Kingdom for costs to cover the employment of counsel at Strasbourg when these have been determined. Her Majesty's Government are satisfied that Guernsey will take full cognisance of its obligations under the convention in the application of the Housing Control of Occupation (Guernsey) laws.
