HC Deb 05 May 1988 vol 132 c538W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the number of children in each local education authority who received free school meals(a) because their parents were in receipt of family income supplement and (b) at the discretion of the local education authority, at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

In September 1987 an estimated 82,236 children received school meals because their parents were in receipt of supplementary benefit or family income support. But information about the numbers in each category is not available. A further 7,314 children received free school meals at the discretion of the local education authority.
