To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he is taking to implement the European Community free food scheme.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made on developing a scheme for free food for the needy.

As announced on 21 April, butter and beef are being allocated to 127 charitable organisations and local authorities up to the limit of £10.4 million made available to us by the Commission for 1988. The timing and method of distribution to the needy are matters for the individual organisations concerned.
