§ Mr. Nicholas BennettTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science on how many occasions of which he is aware a school governing body or sub-committee of a school governing body has brought and heard charges of gross misconduct against a teacher employed at the school in respect of that teacher's actions as a governor of the school and not related to the teacher-governor's employment at the school; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DunnWe are not aware of any such occasions. The meetings and proceedings of school governing bodies are governed by regulations made by my right hon. Friend. Under the current regulations a teacher or other governor is disqualified from continuing to hold that office in certain specified circumstances. However, the regulations make no provision for a governing body to hold a disciplinary hearing in relation to the actions of one of its members in that person's capacity as a governor.
