HC Deb 04 May 1988 vol 132 cc449-51W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the number of child pedestrian road fatalities, in total and expressed in relative terms, in each member state of the European Community within the age ranges five to nine, 10 to 14 and 15 to 17, for each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The number of deaths in each member state of the European Community is as follows for 1979 to 1986 inclusive. Data for other years could he made available only at disproportionate cost. Most countries use the standard international definition of "road accident death", which is dying within 30 days as result of the road accident. The exceptions are France (death within six days of the accident), Greece (death within three days), Italy (death within seven days) and Spain (death within 24 hours).
