HL Deb 04 May 1988 vol 496 c675WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many civil servants are employed by the National Health Service in offices remote from hospital, and how many offices there are in London and how many in the provinces.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Skelmersdale)

There are no civil servants employed by the National Health Service. Each of the 14 regional and 190 district health authorities have offices not attached to the hospitals in their areas. Within the four Thames regions, which each include parts of London, there are 57 districts.
