§ Mrs. RoeWe keep the planning system under constant review to ensure that it operates efficiently to enable development which contributes to the growth of the economy while protecting and enhancing the urban and rural environment. We are at present consulting about proposals to amend and consolidate the general development order, and about proposals for incorporating EC requirements on environmental assessment into the planning system. We also intend shortly to introduce revised procedure rules for planning inquiries.
