HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c651W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many mentally-ill people received treatment(a) as in-patients and (b) as out-patients in the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale health authority in (i) Calderstones, (ii) Brockhall and (iii) other hospital sites in the last 12 months.

Mrs. Currie

In 1986, the latest year for which information is available, the table shows the number of inpatient admissions and out-patient attendances at NHS mental illness hospitals/units in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale health authority.

Hospital In-patient admissions out-patient attendances
Burnley General 847 9,447
Rossendale General 345 2,189

These figures include patients who have been admitted or attended hospital on more than one occasion during the year.

Brockhall and Calderstones hospitals are mental handicap hospitals. Central information shows very few admissions to these hospitals of mentally handicapped residents with an associated mental illness diagnosis.
