HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 cc671-2W
Mr. Sims

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what plans he has to increase the supply of properly qualified communicators with deaf people on training schemes;

(2) whether he intends to establish further courses along the lines of that run at Bournville further education college, Birmingham, to train communicators with deaf people.

Mr. Cope

The Manpower Services Commission is committed to assist in increasing the supply of trained communicators for deaf people in order to support deaf trainees in the commission's youth and adult training programme. Plans include the setting up and running of a number of courses over the next year to 18 months based on the experiences of the Bournville course, which was itself funded by the commission.
