To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether, after privatisation of the Crown Suppliers, any staff wishing to remain in the Civil Service will be found equivalent employment elsewhere in the Civil Service, with retraining and regrading where necessary;

(2) whether, after privatisation of the Crown Suppliers, staff nearing retirement or with long service not wishing to transfer out of the Crown Suppliers will have the option of going to the new organisation on secondment or taking early retirement;

(3) whether staff of the Crown Suppliers will be able to transfer out of the organisation prior to privatisation and will have equality of opportunity with other staff to apply for other jobs within the Civil Service;

(4) what are the expected financial savings to Government of privatising the Crown Suppliers;

(5) which parts of the Crown Suppliers organisation will be retained within the Civil Service;

(6) whether, after privatisation of the Crown Suppliers, any changes to the terms and conditions of service of staff will be subject to the same consultation with the trade union side as at present;

(7) whether, following privatisation of the Crown Suppliers, any staff will be made redundant compulsorily.
