HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c640W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his latest estimate of the amount per week which the common agricultural policy adds to the average family food bill in the United Kingdom; and if the sums spent on exporting food are additional to this amount.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The magnitude of the costs of the CAP to consumers and taxpayers depends on the nature of the alternative policy envisaged. The Government's aim is to achieve lower levels of support worldwide thereby reducing the costs borne by consumers and taxpayers.
