HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c713W
Mr. McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will be meeting the management of ICI to discuss the phasing out of chlorofluorocarbon gases production.

Mr. Moynihan

I have no plans to do so. Officials in the Department keep in close touch with both United Kingdom producers of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) on the steps they are taking to develop suitable and safe substitutes for the CFCs controlled by the Montreal protocol. ICI has recently reaffirmed its commitment to the development of such alternatives and has scheduled a rapid increase in its investment in this field.
