HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 cc656-7W
Sir Dudley Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress is being made to diagnose, treat and counter the spread of the chlamydia infection within the community.

Mrs. Currie

Facilities exist in every district to diagnose chlamydia, and the disease responds readily to the appropriate antibiotics.

The public information campaigns about AIDS by the Department and the Health Education Authority should not only help to reduce the risks of HIV infection but should assist, with other work on public education, in preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including chlamydia.
