HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c715W
Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the numbers of(a) children and (b) pensioners living in bed-and-breakfast accommodation for each local authority in England and Wales.

Mrs. Roe

At 31 December 1987 there were 10,370 households temporarily placed in bed-and-breakfast accommodation by English local authorities under the homelessness provisions of the Housing Act 1985. Information on the number of children and pensioners in these households is not collected by my Department. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales has responsibility for these matters as they affect the Principality.

Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest cost of keeping a family in bed-and-breakfast accommodation for each local authority in England and Wales.

Mrs. Roe

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Cardiff, West (Mr. Morgan) on 16 March, at column601.
