HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c619W
Mr. Churchill

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has as to by how much more or less than the retail prices index landing charges at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester have increased in each of the last 10 years for which figures are available.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

There is no standard index for charges at each of these airports. An approximation is provided by aggregate traffic income per passenger. The table shows aggregate traffic income per passenger for the period 1978–79 to 1986–87 indexed relative to the RPI.

1978–79 = 100
Heathrow Gatwick Stansted Manchester
1978–79 100 100 100 100
1979–80 93 90 77 96
1980–81 124 107 99 108
1981–82 117 100 101 108
1982–83 105 82 75 100
1983–84 100 89 92 103

1985–86 84 95 80 91
1986–87 80 95 90 90

Note: Figures prior to 1983–84 include security levy paid to the then Department of Trade.
