The tables show for the date closest to January 1 each year for which data are available, the numbers of unemployed registrants aged 16 to 24 years in the United Kingdom for each year from 1979 to 1982 (table (a)) and the numbers of unemployed claimants in the same age category for each year from 1983 to 1988 (table (b)). The figures are affected by the changes in the coverage of the count.
